How often should you use an African net sponge?
If you are new to a textured net, start once or twice a week with light pressure. Increase only if your skin stays comfortable; daily exfoliation is not automatically better.

A sensible starting point
Use the net lightly once or twice a week for the first couple of weeks. That is a practical starting point, not a medical rule. It gives you a chance to learn how much pressure the mesh needs without turning every shower into an exfoliation session.
Can you use an African net sponge every day?
Some people can tolerate very light daily use. Others get dry, tight or sore quickly. The better question is whether your skin benefits from daily friction.
If you want to use the net every shower, keep the pressure very light and switch to your hands or a softer cloth as soon as you notice persistent redness, stinging, flaking or a stripped feeling.
What if you already use acids, retinoids or benzoyl peroxide?
Go slower. The American Academy of Dermatology notes that retinoids and benzoyl peroxide can make skin more sensitive and that adding exfoliation may worsen dryness or irritation. Exfoliating acids add another source of skin-cell shedding, so there is often no need to stack everything on the same day.
Who should go especially slowly?
- People whose skin is dry, sensitive or easily irritated.
- Anyone with eczema, active irritation, open cuts or sunburn.
- People using products or medicines that make the skin more sensitive.
- Anyone prone to dark marks after irritation.
How to know you are using it too often
Reduce pressure or frequency if you get lasting redness, soreness, stinging, flaking, a tight “stripped” feeling or new irritation after showers. Stop using the net on an irritated area until it has recovered.
If your skin feels normal and comfortable, there is no need to chase a fixed schedule. The goal is clean skin, not the maximum possible amount of exfoliation.
